International housing studio designing 30 residential housing units in different cities across the world.
Professor Javier Maroto, being a native of Madrid, lead our section in learning how to occupy the historic Royal Hunting Grounds just west of the Palacio Real de Madrid and the River Manzanares. The site, having recently undergone major construction submerging a highway underground, has become a new gateway between the medieval center of the city, the baroque Royal Palace and the forest that provides an escape for all of the city's inhabitants. The site needed to be a gradient bridging the adjacent context. A more vibrant, tighter urban fabric on one end of the site, invigorating the newly developed promenade along the river, that slowly dissipates into the Casa de Campo forest.
